DESCRIPTION
Do you have a passion to serve today’s youth? Do you have a desire to use your skills in youth ministry and discipleship? Youth for Christ/Youth Unlimited Portage is hiring Campus Life workers to work with the Factory Drop-in Director and the North End Director.The Campus Life worker’s goal is to connect with children in Portage, engaging them in the vision of Youth for Christ—to see every young person and their community changed by God’s love—through evangelism, discipleship, and holistic care. This role will support and be based out of the appropriate Drop in Centre.This full-time position reports to the Executive Director.
DIRECT MINISTRY EXPECTATIONS
1. Engaging in outreach and discipleship to provide youth either ages 10 – 14 (grade 5-8) or ages 11-20 (grade 5 – 12)with holistic care in Portage la Prairie.
2. Assisting and leading in the development of programs at the Drop in Centre for youth (for example: drop-inprograms, in-school programs, discipleship ministries, and special events, etc.). Some evening programs arerequired.
3. Building community with local agencies/organizations, and schools.
4. One-on-one meetings with youth with genuine care for the whole person to introduce them to, and disciple themthrough, life with Christ.
5. Establishing and engaging in a ministry rooted in prayer.
6. To look for specific involvement in the schools such as serving in the school, classroom help, staff support, sports involvement, and other needs that present themselves. The main intent being to build relationships with youth while serving the school. This will be done in accordance to school policy and relationship with the school administration that may have to be built over time. This approach will start as ‘service providing’ at the start with awareness of opportunities to speak spiritually into situations as they arrive.
SPIRITUAL & PERSONAL EXPECTATIONS
1. Pursuing an active and growing relationship with God, including a healthy active prayer life, membership at a local church and ongoing personal study.
2. Participating in training opportunities that would better equip you for the job, as approved by your supervisor.
3. Establishing relationships for personal accountability and mentoring.
4. Be a self-starter with a strong work ethic
5. Have a passion to see youth and their families know and follow Jesus
6. Completion of the YFC Canada Credentialing process within 2 years of start date.
STAFF & VOLUNTEER EXPECTATIONS
1. Assisting in the recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers for youth programs and events.
2. Collaborating with staff and volunteers to find ways to enhance or create outreach, evangelism and discipleship efforts according to YFC/YU’s mission and vision.
3. Participating in staff training, Portage staff meetings and monthly meetings with Portage and area staff.
4. Involvement in fundraising events.
ORGANIZATIONAL & ADMINISTRATIVE EXPECTATIONS
1. To meet regularly with Executive Director/or designate leader as well as mentors.
2. To become part of the YFC team and ensure involvement with ongoing team connections
3. To be involved and attend various Retreat and Conferences that are YFC driven and others as seen as appropriate.
4. To fill out required reports and maintain participant records.
5. Maintain ministry supplies for the location.
6. Help to keep the facilities clean and free of snow in winter
PERSONAL PARTNER DEVELOPMENT
1. Personal partnership development - which includes securing and maintaining a sound base of financial & prayer partners to a level sufficient to fund the salary and immediate costs of this position.
2. Establish a Ministry Partner Development Plan and keeping regular contact with ministry partners through a news/prayer letter, visits, phone calls, etc.
